Charlton Athletic are giving local youngsters a leg up in their bid to become football's stars of the future.

The Coca-Cola Championship club have teamed up with DigiLog, an online development log designed to improve sporting performance and increase awareness of key social issues.

When a youngster downloads their free DigiLog, they will be able to build a record of their training sessions and matches. Collating the information will enable them to review their performances, discover where they can improve and highlight their achievements. Users will also have access to Q4Sport, an Internet resource with information on how to maintain fitness, tips on sports psychology and technical advice from professional coaches.

The DigiLog was the brain-child of former Brighton & Hove Albion Coach Alan Kenworthy and ex-Seagulls Manager Dean Wilkins. Now Kenworthy wants to extend the scheme throughout The Football League if the trial with Charlton is successful. He said: "We have probably surprised ourselves with how successful things have gone so far, it's good to see youngsters being able to celebrate their achievements and learn how to improve, rather than focusing on negatives".

"It was also very important for it to be free for all youngsters in order that as many people as possible could gain access to the benefits." Charlton Football Development Manager Sean Daly added: "This is a great opportunity for all involved to develop together".

"The Digilog is a fantastic resource for players, parents and coaches and it will really help invest that much more in the community."
